Kodiak Canvas tents are built to last years of abuse and potentially a lifetime with proper care.

Many Kodiak Canvas tent failures will be the result of improper canvas tent use.

You can read my personal experience in my Kodiak FlexBow Review.

I’m in year 3 with my Kodiak, but others have had it longer. You can see verified reviews of this question asked here.

Maximizing the Life of a Kodiak Canvas Tent

Here are some tips to make your Kodiak Canvas tent last longer.

  1. Store the Kodiak canvas tent dry, 100% dry. If you must pack it wet, set it up ASAP to dry it out.
  2. Store your Kodiak tent a cool, dry place and not in my damp basement
  3. Use a ground tarp underneath your Kodiak to prevent punctures and wear in the flooring
  4. Clean your canvas tent when necessary
  5. Lubricate the zippers if they become stuck or less agile vs using brute force.
  6. Collapse your Kodiak in strong winds to avoid pole & canvas damage. I recommend keeping it out of sustained 30mph winds. While it can handle it, I’ve had a different type of canvas tent get destroyed in 40mph wind gusts.

Follow Kodiak’s care guide, and you should get many years of enjoyment from your tent.

Can You Leave a Kodiak Canvas Tent Up All Year?

It is not recommended to leave a Kodiak Tent up all year.

There are several problems with leaving canvas tents up for long periods of time.

1. The UV from the sun will destroy the canvas overtime, this is true for all canvas tents

UV from the sun will cause the canvas to fade and become brittle, which subjects it to tearing and holes.

This can be mitigated by using a shade structure.

2. The bottom of the tent will be damp and never fully dry. This can creep up to the seams and bottom of the canvas. It’s at risk of mildew and mold if it never dries.

This is true even if it’s not raining. Moisture will still build up after a few days. I was surprised at how wet the bottom of my tent tarp was in the same spot after a week.

Conclusion

A Kodiak tent is an excellent investment for any outdoor enthusiast. They are durable, reliable, and will last years with proper care.
